Lehmann: I Expect To Be Picked Against Bolton
Arsenal goalkeeper Jens Lehmann has insisted that he is fit and should be selected to start against Bolton on Saturday.
The Germany number one has not featured for The Gunners since his error at Blackburn Rovers in the infancy of the season.
In his absence Manuel Almunia has deputised well, or rather he has avoided making mistakes that catch the eye.
Lehmann’s exclusion from the starting XI was reportedly due to Achilles and elbow injuries, however he managed to play for Germany on September 8 against Wales.
Having come through 90 minutes unscathed and without conceding against Republic of Ireland at the weekend the 37-year-old believes he will get his starting place back for Arsenal on Saturday.
"I am fully fit and I expect to be back against Bolton," he said. "[Wenger] has not told me anything but I am here now and I expect him to play me, so no worries.
"This has been the first time that I have been injured since I was at Arsenal [but] sometimes the body takes a break.
"When you are playing for four years at a consistently high level, the body tells you, 'You're injured now and you need a break,' and that's why you can't play for several weeks."
Lehmann made a string of fine saves in the 0-0 draw at the weekend, but picked up a booking and is now suspended for Germany’s next match.
National team boss Joachim Low was full of praise for his goalkeeper’s performance: "Lehmann's performance was absolutely flawless," he said.
"He was very good in the air, he picked up all those high crosses and he provided solidity at the back. It proved one more time [in his favour] all the criticisms and discussions about 'Is he worth it? Is he not worth it?' He was cool, calm and collected and able to focus when it really counted."
